Season Programs - Performance & Outreach

Since 1997, annually produces artistically excellent programs in cultural arts and traditions.
Quality validated by repeat support at the City, State, and National level.


Annual Productions & Community Performances:

  • Celebrando (with Puerto Rican Masters) - multiphase project engages our community with Master workshops and cultural exchanges that teach history, heritage, folklore and traditions, and broaden our performing and teaching expertise. A culminating Heritage Festival features Master folklore performances, dancing for all, authentic food, and handcraft artesania.
  • Sembrando Herencia (annual musical) - original bilingual musicals, written by PRFDance Director Tekina-eiru' Maynard, bring history to life through community theatre featuring live music and dance. Gives actors, dancers, musicians, and students of all ages opportunities to develop multidisciplinary skills.
  • Community Performances - Adult and Junior Company perform at community events throughout the year.

    Cultural Outreach (free, monthly events)
    Events share cultural traditions such as dominoes socials, Three Kings holiday visit. Workshops beyond performing arts share history, literature, and sports (like baseball).

    Taino Arts & Heritage:
    Taino workshops based in oral traditions give community exposure to indigenous traditions of Puerto Rico. Ongoing programs by Tekina-eirĂș Maynard, consecrated Elder and teacher of Taino traditions. Our active indigenous community -- Yara Taino & Guaytiao -- celebrates heritage and shares life-ways on how to live in relationship with Nature.



    Educational Outreach - Cultural Arts & Traditions We spiral Puerto Rico's history with cultural arts to offer approximately a dozen ongoing programs in folkloric music and dance, percussion, community theatre, and ancestral fighting arts.

  • Traditional Dance & Culture, Children through Adults - four ongoing classes teach folkloric dance from basics to choreography. Bilingual classes include lessons on culture, history, games and songs.
  • Coqui & Family Class - Preschool & Children - whole families have as much fun as their kids in this mixed-age, family-style program that teaches rudiments of folkloric rhythm and dance, Puerto Rican children's songs, games, music on recorder, and Taino language, dance and song.
  • Percussion Classes -- three weekly percussion classes (youth through advance adults) teach traditional rhythms and percussion instruments from Puerto Rico, including barriles, panderos, and other latin percussion.
  • Music Ensembles & Choir -- weekly programs (students, professional levels) teach traditional and popular Puerto Rican compositions and authentic orchestration.
  • Kokobale -- Ancestral Fighting Arts class teaches Danza de Guerra with sticks and machetes, a Bomba tradition.
  • Cuatro -- weekly class on this national instrument of Puerto Rico teaches traditional music, seis, aguinaldos, danzas, and more.
  • Community Theatre -- original bilingual plays bring history to live with live music, dance and acting; students of all ages develop multidisciplinary skills.
  • Junior Performing Company -- fast-paced, advanced youth dance class trains committed students ready to mature their folkloric-dance talents. Trains our future Professional Company Dancers.
  • Performing Company (Dance & Music) -- Apprentices through professionals are trained to present high-quality folklore. Company members master the material, demonstrate commitment, and team spirit.

    Specialty Programs:

  • Salsa Classes for Couples -- Custom workshops for couples and special groups teach Salsa ("On1") and other latin social dances, Puerto Rican Style.
  • Choreography Services -- Custom choreography for Weddings, Quinceaneras, Pagents, etc. Creative solo, couple, or group dances from folkloric to social dance styles. Includes lessons on Puerto Rican culture and history.
  • Cultural Education through Web and Social Media -- since 1997, offer resources in Puerto Rico's history and cultural traditions to educate and instill cultural pride includes: website (3,000 world-wide visitors/week) and Facebook (8000+ subscribers).
  • Community & Youth Development -- volunteers develop skills in teaching, business, computer-based business applications. Youth advance skills through company apprenticeship, student teaching. All programs encourage mentorship, nurture self-esteem, and build leadership skills.
