Celebrating our 10th Season, PRFDance will once again bring the rich heritage of Puerto Rico to Austin with a full-length live music, dance and theatre production that passes on a heritage to a new generation. The musical showcases more than 50 of our own dancers, musicians, and performing arts students.
This lively celebration of Spanish, Taino and West African roots will take place on Sunday, December 10, 2006, 3pm at the Journey Theatre at W. Charles Akins High School, 10701 South First Street in Austin. This event will be free and open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs, dominoes, and (non-alcoholic) coolers and enjoy our big, tree covered lawn. URGENT NEWS BULLETIN: Due to the unfortunate flooding of the State Theatre, WE HAVE TO MAKE A THEATRE CHANGE for our Celebrando 2006 - Son Boricua, June 24 & 25. Our show will now take place at the UT PAC's McCullough Theatre, 510 EAST 23rd, located on Robert Dedman Drive between 23rd and East 25th Street on the east side of the University of Texas at Austin campus. Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance celebrates the rich culture of Puerto Rico with a unique performance -- "Celebrando 2006 - Son Boricua" -- with special guests Gibaro direct from Puerto Rico! Join our performing company of dancers and musicians as we bring to life Puerto Rico's past with the rich "Musica de los 40s," a musical style Rafael Hernandez and Bobby Capo made famous! Come with us back to the early 20th century for a Sunday afternoon at the Plaza, when the sounds of street vendors' "pregones" filled the air and friends danced and sang and enjoyed eating piraguas (fruit flavored shaved-ice cones)!
