PRFDance Director Tekina-eirú
returns home for...
El Concilio Taíno Guatu-Ma-Cu A Borikén
Areyto Ceremonial de
Operito de Alcalde de Caguas
Jardín Botánico y Cultural de Caguas
September 2010
In September, Tekina-eiru' returned home for a very special ceremonial
Areyto dedicated to the beloved Mayor of Caguas, William
Miranda Marin, who passed away on June 4, 2010 of pancreatic cancer at the age
of 69. He will always be remembered for the contributions he made to the
beautiful City of Caguas.
El Concilio Taino was asked by the City of Caguas to hold a ceremony
for his spirit (operito) that is now in Soraya (paradise).
Tekina-eirú is a proud blood descendant of the native Tainos who call
the island Boriken. Tekina-eirú is mentored in native traditions by
El Concilio's (Chief) Cacike Caciba Opil (photo left).
She is a Tekina in the Suania -- a Teacher of Taino
traditions in the Americas, and a leader of ceremonial dance.
"Proud of our Taino Blood! From the roots of this noble tree,
the next generation grows!" -- Tekina-eirú
