On June 25, 2011, PUERTO RICAN FOLKLORIC DANCE celebrated 10 years of joint performances with Puerto Rican Masters. Celebrando 2011 - Special Edition was an exciting evening of music, dancing, and performances featuring the hot Plena of Viento de Agua Unplugged, Bomba with Tata Cepeda, Salsa Gorda with DJ Bufiao, romantic Boleros by Austin's own Leticia Rodriguez, and live performances by PRFDance. Our audience from near and distant cities -- Houston to Dallas, Florida and Oklahoma -- brought their salsa shoes and danced up a storm at our season closing event! This successful event was the birth of our annual Salsa & Heritage Festival!
This special edition festival was the culmination of a great season of learning and rehearsal that included a Master workshop by Tito Matos and Tata Cepeda in March 2011. Our Celebrando project was a wonderful way to celebrate big accomplishments by our small, all volunteer-run nonprofit, which was founded in 1997. This project marked 10 years that PRFDance has brought once-in-a-lifetime joint performances with Folklore Masters who have trained us to become a premier Performing Company of Puerto Rican traditional music and dance. PRFDance is the only Puerto Rican Cultural Center in Texas and our four surrounding States, affiliated with the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture for authentic performances and over 12 weekly educational programs (preschool through adult) in Puerto Rican cultural arts and traditions. This project was sponsored in part by IBM, Ruta Maya Coffee, Ahora Si, Fiesta Mart, Austin Friends of Folk Art, The City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division, and by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
Enjoy the memories!
