Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance
Esperanza del la Herencia 2010
On May 23, 2010, PRFDance brought the rich heritage of Puerto Rico to
life with "Esperanza de la Herencia," a performance event dedicated to
inspiring Youth. With free admission to all children (under 18), this Recital
of our cultural arts students, backed by our PRFDance & Junior Performing
Companies displayed the rich variety of Puerto Rico's traditions, including
live music and dance performances of high energy Plena, Bomba, Jibaro music
with guitars and cuatros, as well as Salsa, Reggeaton, and native Taino music
and dance. This afternoon of lively performance was enhanced by
educational narrations that taught about our cultural history and traditions.
In partnership with the City of Austin Mexican American Cultural Center,
this joyful performance event took up a special collection
for a cultural center family in need of financial help. Little Isabella who
suffers severe epileptic seizures is in need of a
medical-aide dog for safety and assistance with her seizures
that unfortunately continue depite having already gone 5 brain surgeries this
year.
Children are the hope of the future. We hope this annual production inspires
them with a love for our culture that lasts a lifetime, and encourages
them to celebrate and transmit this joyful heritage to future generations.
Passing down our heritage is our reward!
