1998 Performances
Trail of Lights - December 15, 1998, 9:30pm
Come help us celebrate the end of their first performance season! We are
proud to present the Plena and Seis Chorreao at the Trail of Lights Festival
1998 in Zilker Park, Tuesday, December 15, 1998, 9:30p.m. The stage is at
the end of the Trail. See the official Trail of Lights web site for more
information.
Celebrando '98 - December 11, 1998, 7:30pm
Celebrando '98 - Fall Show. A celebration of Puerto Rican Folkloric dance.
A "little show" put on by the students and dancers taking our classes.
A time for everyone to shine for their family, friends, and loved ones.

KXAN-TV 36 Fair - October 17, 1998, 2pm
We will be performing at KXAN-TV 36's "Give 36 Volunteer Fair," at Barton
Creek Square Mall, Saturday, Oct. 17. Their annual fair helps local non-profit
organizations (such as United Way) attract volunteers who want to help.
Austin Children's Museum International Festival - September 26, 1998
Our largest performance yet for Austin Children Museum's
"International Children's Festival." This festival
presents world cultures to the community through musical performances,
singers, story tellers, and dance performances including African and
Native American Hoop Dances. Our performance of traditional dances from
Puerto Rico will include live percussion!!! This event will takes place in
Fiesta Gardens, 11am - 5pm, $5 admission ($20 for a family of 5 or more).
Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance performing Plena
Festejo Folklorico - August 8, 1998, 4:30pm
We will be performing at the 2nd Annual "Festejo Folklorico," hosted by the
Round Rock Ballet Folklorico. This free event will run from 12-7pm
at the Old Settler's Park Pavillion (Round Rock) and will feature
ethnic music and dance performances by Brazilian, Mexican, Hawaiian, and
Scottish groups, American Square Dancers and more, as well as our
traditional dances from Puerto Rico. A free Tejano dance from 7-9pm
immediately follows this day of performances.
PuRica's Dia de San Juan Picnic - August 1, 1998, 5pm
We will be performing Seis, Bomba and Plena for the Puerto
Rican Cultural Alliance (PuRica)'s Annual Summer Picnic. Our show will
present some of our most loved traditional dances, as well as
the cultural and historial significances behind them. As a special
treat, Keito St. James, our favorite Puerto Rican from Hawaii
(Dir. of Tropical Productions), will join us in Bomba. This event will take
place at Dick Nichol's Park (South Austin) from 3pm - 8pm. It's an
old-fashioned picnic -- bring your own food, drinks and chairs. Admission
is free. PuRica is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting
Puerto Rican culture in Austin. For more information about the

The Settlement Home (Private Workshop) - July 21, 1998, 10am
Private Seis workshop to be given at The Settlement Home, a non-profit
residential treatment and therapeutic foster care program for girls
emotionally suffering from abuse, neglect and abandonment. The workshop is
part of a summer program providing new and enriching experiences as part of
their treatment and healing process. Other summer activities at the center
include Creative Writing, Poetry Fest, Puppetry, Reading and World Cultures.
The girls are very sweet and deserving of what little we can give them,
and the teachers are doing an outstanding job. If you would like to help
(donations, talents) call Brenda Harry, the center's Support Services
Supervisor (512-836-2150).
Austin Children's Museum Program - May 8, 1998, 1pm
Presenting for Austin Children's Museum "Windows to the World" program.
The goal of this Museum project is to bring authentic cultural education to
elementary public school children. We will be teaching the children to
dance the "Seis Chorreao," in addition to teaching them the cultural and
historical significance behind this style of dance. There will also be a
short lesson on "Bomba" to show them the rich variety of our Puerto Rican
folkloric heritage.
Tapestry Dance Company's "Block Party" - May 2, 1998, 4:45pm
Come dance Seis and Bomba with us at Tapestry Dance Company's "Block
Party." This family event runs from 4-10pm and features live music by
six local bands including Susanna Sharpe and the Samba Police, and a variety
of dance demonstrations including Tango and Irish Step. We are going to be
teaching the lively dances of Seis and Bomba (4:45-5:30). Cost: our
class is free (!!). However, Tapestry is charging $4 at the door for
the 4-10pm event. The Tapestry Dance studio is located at 507 Pressler
Street, off 5th.

UT's International Extravaganza - April 18, 1998, 7:30pm
Performing at University of Texas's "International Extravaganza" which will
take place 6pm-midnight. This event is part of I-Week, the Texas Union
International Awareness Committee's annual celebration of the world and its
cultures. Texas Union Ballroom (3rd Floor), corner of 24th and Guadalupe.
Admission is free.
St. Stephen's HS (Extended Private Workshop) - Spring 1998
We will be giving a Plena workshop series to Dance students at St. Stephen's
Episcopal High School (Deirdre Strand, St. Stephen's Dance Director).
The workshop will not only teach the dance and its cultural significance,
but will provide guidelines for traditional costuming. The workshop
will culminate in the teaching of a choreography to be performed by the
students for the Finale of their year-end show "Dance...The Universal Language"
(May 12, 1998, 7pm, St. Stephen's Helm Theatre). The show will feature dances
from many different ethnic cultures, as well as the Plena.
We will be performing at the 1998 Austin Ethnic Fair sponsored by Concordia University
located at 3400 Interstate Highway 35 North, Austin, Texas 78705-2799.
Admission is free.
