ACTORS CALL FOR AUDITIONS - Original, 20th annual Bilingual Musical

TITLE: Cangrejos y Cafe
WHAT: Original script featuring multi-ethnic cast.
WHO: Puerto Rican Cultural Center, 20th Theater Production
WHEN: Two mainstage performances, December 10 & 11, 2022

Announcing auditions for roles in an original play featuring a multi-ethnic cast -- adults, all ages, including lively seniors!

CANGREJOS Y CAFE is our 20th original, bilingual play based in Puerto Rican oral and documented history.

She came from a long-time, coffee growing family in Las Montanas. He was an obrero from San Mateo de Cangrejos. Their friendship spanned lifetimes. In his ancestral past, she saved his life. He has returned to this lifetime to repay the debt.

Set in the 1950s, our annual mainstage production will combine original live music, dance, community theater, and cocobale -- STICKS & MACHETE FIGHTING -- to bring history to life and honor unsung heroes!

PRODUCTION DETAILS

Roles of multi-ethnic cast include adults of any ethnicity:

  • Urban leaders, working community, fighting artists
  • Hacendados and Jibaro (Mountain) elders and farmers

    Great volunteer opportunity! Barter includes:
    - Professional Stage Combat training - sticks and machetes - by fighting master Toby Minor (TX State University).
    - Authentic training in Boricua folkloric dance and song.

    Community Theatre rehearsals will meet Wednesdays, 6-9:30pm, starting September 14, 2022. Two weeks before production, additional rehearsals will fold actors, dancers, musicians, and fighters together into one exciting musical! Fight Training will include professional workshops on stage combat on selected Saturdays. Knowledge of Spanish a plus, but not required.     Please bring one 2-minute monologue, dramatic or comedic (suitable for all ages) for your in-person audition in front of our artistic community:

  • Saturday, 10:00am - Aug 13 & 20
  • Monday, 6:00pm - Aug 15 & 22 & 29

    Auditions held: 701 Tillery Street, 78702 Puerto Rican Culture Center (south side entrance of building).
