• Zilker Park's Trail of Lights Festival - Dec 12, 1999, 8:30pm

• Celebrando '99, Schroeder Performance Hall, Concordia U. - Dec 4, 7:30pm

  Our joyful celebration of traditional dance and culture offers an informal presentation of the new material learned by our students, apprentices, and professional-level dancers this semester. This Fall's Celebrando features a new "Plena" dance in costumes made by the students themselves. Historical notes highlight the richness of Puerto Rican culture, a heritage based on Taino Indian, Spanish and West African roots. Concordia University's Schroeder Performance Hall at the Louise T. • "Collectivos: Seeds of our Ancestors," Santa Cruz Center - Oct 22-24, 1999

  We are truly honored to be invited to present the roots of our ancestors at this first-annual showcase of Austin-based latino artists. Roen Salinas and Leticia Rodriguez's collaboration brings together Atzlan Dance Co., Tony Bravo & Kinesis, Auspicious Inc., Ballet East and others in a celebration of latino heritage, a display of how our ancestral roots have influenced our art in beautifully unique ways. PRFDance closes the show with lively Bomba dances, the seeds planted by our West African ancestors. This event takes place at the Santa Cruz Center for Culture, Oct 22nd (8pm), 23rd (8pm), and 24th (2pm). $10 Adults, $8 seniors/students, $5 children. Information: 478-9717.

• Festival Latino at St. Luis Church - Oct 17, 1999, 3:30pm

  Fun day for the whole family at the 2nd annual Latin-American Festival. The festival features games, books, arts and crafts booths and food from Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Honduras, Nicaragua and others. Folklorico music and dance from the Andes, San Salvador, Columbia, Puerto Rico, and Mariachis! Salsa and cubia by singers, dancers, and music group Piel Canela. Crowning of the Festival Queen! The whole event takes place from 8am to 5pm at St. Luis Catholic Church grounds, 7601 Burnet Road near North Cross Mall in Austin. Admission is FREE! Call 454-0384 for more information.

• Children Museum's International Festival, Fiesta Gardens - Oct 16, 1:15pm

  We will be teaching the kids to dance one of our favorite Bailes de los Montanas (dances from the mountains), Seis de los Palitos, at the Austin Children Museum's annual children's festival that presents world cultures to the community through musical performances, singers, story tellers, and dance performances. This event will takes place in Fiesta Gardens, 2101 Bergman in Austin from 10am-5pm. Admission $4/person, $20/family of 5 or more (limit 9). For more information, 472-2499 x221.

  Our dance company will perform Seis de Los Palitos for the Children's Museum on K-EYE TV's morning show, Oct 12, at 7am (approx).

• Camp Mabry's Hispanic Heritage Celebration - Sept 16, 1999, 12 noon

  We will perform some of our favorites traditional dances, and teach the history behind their origins, to our military community at Camp Mabry. Their lunch-time Hispanic Heritage Celebration runs from 11:30am-1:00pm and is open to the public. Location, "The Drill Hall", Bld 75. Lunch, $6. For more information on the event call Sgt. • Austin Salsa Music Festival, Waterloo Park - Sept 11, 1999, 5:15pm

  The master legend in salsa, Larry Harlow, the world's reigning virtuoso cuatro player, Yomo Toro, Junior Gonzales and the Latin Legends band headline the 1999 Salsa Festival. Also performing at this annual event, benefiting the Austin Children's Shelter, are Calientes del Son (Louisiana) and Austin's own, Dario y su Comborican and Mambo Redd. We are proud to be invited to dance plena, a music form which contributed to the evolution of Salsa. The salsa festival takes place from 2-10pm at Waterloo Park, 403 E. 15th Street. $8 in advance, $10 at the door, children under 12 free.

• Roy Lozano's Ballet Folklorico de Texas' Discover '99 - Aug 28, 1999, 7:45pm

  We will be performing Bomba and Plena at "Discover '99," RLBFT's annual summer Zilker Hillside Theatre production. RLBFT is Austin's Premier dance company for Mexican folklorico. We are very happy for this opportunity to share Puerto Rican culture with their audience! Also performing, the RLBFT children and junior company. It's going to be a full night! The Zilker Hillside Theatre is an outdoor/open-air theatre. Bring a picnic blanket and get there early for a good spot on the lawn. Admission is FREE.

• The Settlement Home (Private Workshop) - July 20, 1999

  We're so happy to be returning to The Settlement Home again this summer, a non-profit residential treatment and therapeutic foster care program for girls emotionally suffering from abuse, neglect and abandonment. The workshop is part of a summer program providing new and enriching experiences as part of their treatment and healing process. Other summer activities at the center typically include Creative Writing, Poetry Fest, Puppetry, Reading and World Cultures. The girls are very sweet and deserving of what little we can give them, and the teachers are doing an outstanding job. • From Puerto Rico, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico - June 11, 1999

  No, this is not a typo! This world reknowned 37-year-old Salsa Orchestra REALLY IS coming to Austin! They are an institution when it comes to salsa, and we are thrilled out of our minds to be able to perform for them! Our traditional dances that night will include our new "La Maquina," a fun dance that pays tribute to the historic train of Puerto Rico. The concert will be held Friday night, June 11, 1999 at the Silver Dollar Dance Hall, 2201 E. Ben White. Tickets $25 in advance, $30 at the door. • UT's International Extravaganza - April 23, 1999, 8:00pm

  We are very honored to be a Featured Performer at the University of Texas' "International Extravaganza." This outdoor event is part of I-Week, the Texas Union International Awareness Committee's annual celebration of the world and its cultures. Featured music groups, Snipe Hunt (World Funk) and 1001 Nites (Arabian), add to exciting international performances by the Hungarian, Indian, Philippino, Vietnamese, Andean, Panhellenic, Korean, Kuwaiti, and African Student Associations. The event runs 7pm-1am at UT-Austin's South Mall (21st and Guadalupe). Admission is free. International Food buffet ($5 UT Students, $10 others). See the UT website for more info. • From Puerto Rico, Tony Vega and his Orq. - March 26, 1999

  This is a Salsa Dance you won't want to miss! Austin Salsa lovers are thrilled to hear Tony Vega, world-famous Sonero from Puerto Rico, will be coming to our town! And we are very excited to have been invited to perform at that concert. We will be performing Bomba and Plena, traditional dances from our Puerto Rican heritage. Also included in the lineup: La Clave (salsa band from Kileen), and the wonderful DJ Pinito (Kileen). The concert will be held Friday night, March 26, 1999 at El Chaparral, 5500 S. Congress. • DANCEFest - January 31, 1999, 2:30pm

  When you see the lineup you will know why we feel honored to be invited to present Puerto Rican folkloric dances at DANCEfest, Sunday, January 31, 1999. DANCEfest is a weekend long, multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural artistic dance event featuring 18 local Austin dance companies/artists. We'll be dancing new Bomba dances for this festival, a dance style inherited from our West African heritage. This event takes place Jan. 29-31 at the Scottish Rite Theatre, 207 W. 18th Street. The Sunday, Jan. 31st show will run 1-3:30pm (approx.) and feature ethnic dances from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ireland and others. • Austin Ethnic Fair - January 23, 1999, 4:45pm

  We celebrate our one year performance anniversary at the event where it all began, the 1999 Austin Ethnic Fair. This family event celebrates the many ethnic backgrounds of the Austin community. Come enjoy ethnic foods, demonstrations, and handcrafts. An international stage features music and dances from all over the world. Woltman Activities Center, Concordia University at Austin, 3400 Interstate Highway 35 North. The whole event runs from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free.
