Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance performing La Maquina
-
A joyful celebration of traditional dance and culture. Informal presentation
of Seis Chorreao, Bomba and Plena by our dance students and professional-level
dancers. Historical notes highlight the richness of Puerto Rican culture,
a heritage based on Taino Indian, Spanish and West African roots. Concordia
University's Schroeder Performance Hall at the Louise T. Peter Center,
3400 IH35. Admission is FREE.

UT's International Extravaganza - April 23, 1999, 8:00pm
We are very honored to be a Featured Performer at the
University of Texas' "International Extravaganza." This outdoor event
is part of I-Week, the Texas Union International Awareness Committee's
annual celebration of the world and
its cultures. Featured music groups, Snipe Hunt (World Funk) and
1001 Nites (Arabian), add to exciting international performances by
the Hungarian, Indian, Philippino, Vietnamese, Andean, Panhellenic,
Korean, Kuwaiti, and African Student Associations.
The event runs 7pm-1am at UT-Austin's South Mall
(21st and Guadalupe). Admission is free. International Food buffet
($5 UT Students, $10 others).

From Puerto Rico, Tony Vega and his Orq. - March 26, 1999
This is a Salsa Dance you won't want to miss!
Austin Salsa lovers are thrilled to hear Tony Vega, world-famous Sonero from
Puerto Rico, will be coming to our town! And we are very excited to have been
invited to perform at that concert. We will be performing Bomba and Plena,
traditional dances from our Puerto Rican heritage.
Also included in the lineup: La Clave (salsa band from Kileen), and the
wonderful DJ Pinito (Kileen).
The concert will be held Friday night, March 26, 1999 at El Chaparral,
5500 S. Congress. Tickets $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

DANCEFest - January 31, 1999, 2:30pm
When you see the lineup you will know why we feel honored to be invited to
present Puerto Rican folkloric dances at DANCEfest, Sunday, January 31,
1999. DANCEfest is a weekend long, multi-disciplinary
and cross-cultural artistic dance event featuring 18 local Austin dance
companies/artists. We'll be dancing new Bomba dances for this festival,
a dance style inherited from our West African heritage.
This event takes place Jan. 29-31 at the Scottish Rite Theatre, 207 W. 18th
Street. The Sunday, Jan. 31st show will run 1-3:30pm (approx.) and feature
ethnic dances from Puerto Rico, Mexico, Ireland and others. For tickets

Austin Ethnic Fair - January 23, 1999, 4:45pm
We celebrate our one year performance anniversary at the event where it all
began, the 1999 Austin Ethnic Fair. This family event celebrates the many
ethnic backgrounds of the Austin community. Come enjoy ethnic foods,
demonstrations, and handcrafts. An international stage features
music and dances from all over the world. Woltman
Activities Center, Concordia University at Austin, 3400 Interstate Highway
35 North. The whole event runs from 11am to 7pm. Admission is free. See the
